Building the Series feature for the videos library

In this ride-along, Brian builds a full "Series" feature for the Builder Methods Pro video library from scratch using Claude Code and Opus 4.6. He walks through his entire process — from crafting a detailed initial prompt to kick off the spec-shaping process, through the back-and-forth of clarifying questions, and then into the build itself. Along the way, he works through the database modeling (series, modules, placeholder videos), admin management UI, public-facing series views, and a rapid-fire round of testing and refinement to get it all functional and launchable.

This is a great look at how to tackle a medium-to-large feature in a single Claude Code session, including how to think through product requirements before prompting, how to describe complex UX flows to the agent, and how to iterate quickly through bugs and UI fixes.

  • Crafting a detailed, structured initial prompt covering database models, admin UX, and public views
  • Shaping a spec with clarifying questions before jumping into implementation
  • Building series, modules, placeholder videos, and the associations between them
  • Testing and fixing drag-and-drop reordering, Turbo/Hotwire issues, and rich text editors
  • Rapid-fire refinement workflow: spotting bugs, describing them precisely, and re-testing
  • First impressions using Opus 4.6 for a real coding project
